In 1942, when the U.S. air force built the foundation for what soon became the town of Iqaluit, millions of people throughout the English-speaking world already knew this song by heart. That’s how old it is. Or maybe it’s just the rest of the world that’s so young.
This could only happen in the U.K., of course, but don’t ask me why. As Louis Armstrong once said in a rather different context, if you have to ask, you’ll never know.
